Aboriginal Parenting Support Worker

Duties:

Sasamans is seeking a dynamic individual who loves working with Aboriginal families.This position is based out of Courtenay at Wachiay Friendship Centre.
The Aboriginal Parenting Support Worker program provides an essential preventive support to families identified as being in need of interventions and who are at risk of removal due to issues impacting the safety an well - being of their children. The Aboriginal Support Worker provides intensive service through visits to the families home and works collaboratively with the family to develop goals and activities to assist in reducing risks identified by MCFD . The worker walks alongside the parents in their efforts to accomplish their goals.

Requirements:

Sound knowledge of CFCSA or ability to develop this understanding quickly.
Sound knowledge of how MCFD and aboriginal child and family services Agencies operate.
Preference given to individual with a BSW , Child and Youth degree or diploma and /or human services diploma and demonstrated related working experience.
Knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and history.
Experience working with MCFD or other Aboriginal service organizations.
Ability to facilitate and lead group processes.
Ability to develop strong collaborative team relationship with staff serving the community.
Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills.
Experience or skill working with families at risk.
Valid driver's license & Criminal Record Check mandatory.
