The Position: UCN requires a Red Seal Carpenter to teach the Carpentry portions of the Facilities Technician Program
in Thompson, Manitoba. This program requires an individual who is aware of Carpentry Level 1 content and practical
component. In addition to teaching duties, the instructor will be responsible for classroom management, student
supervision and advising, maintenance of student records and grades, maintenance of applicable inventory, curriculum
review/development and other administrative tasks. Workload may include some evening assignments.

Must have Red Seal Journeyman Certification in carpentry (proof required)

Must have several years of significant experience in the trade after attainment of the Inter-Provincial Red
Seal Certificate
Effective communication skills
Strong leadership and teamwork skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Excellent problem solving skills Excellent computer skills with a familiarity with MS Office
Strong organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to understand and to deal with issues specific to Aboriginal learners and mature
students in northern communities
Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture


The ability to speak an Aboriginal language
Previous teaching experience
Current industry standard safety certificates
Certificate in Adult Education
