Child and Youth Coordinator

A Child and Youth Coordinator is required for the K'6moks First Nation. This is a temporarypart-time position with 21 hours per week and is renewed each year based on funding. TheChild and Youth Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluatingprograms for children and youth in the community.The ideal individual will have provenexperience as a Child and Youth Coordinator; have completed post-secondary training inrelated field or a combination of education and experience.The Child and Youth Coordinatorwill have strong communication and writing skills,is highly accountable,have an ability tomaintain confidentiality and work independently and as a team.Knowledge and familiarity or awillingness to learn about K'omoks history,people and culture is required and willingness to adhere tothe K'omoks First Nation vision and values.

If you do not have the ideal experience, mentoring is available.You will be mentored to work on communication and writing skills, budgets and grant applications.


Key Responsibilities: Working under the supervision of the Band Administrator, the Children
and youth Coordinator will:

*Plan and implement a children and youth program that includes a program plan, budget,policies for a variety of sport, recreation, cultural and other programs for K'omoks children and youth;
*Develop partnerships and relationships with external organizations to include children and youth in activities and/or collaborate to co-host activities and events for children and youth;
*Collaborate with KFN departments and KDC Health to include children and youth in activities and/or co-host activities and events for children and youth;
*Ensure that children and youth are aware of activities available to them in the surrounding communities;
*Work with communications coordinator to develop and implement a communications plan to promote children and youth programs;
*Organize and promote cultural activities, awareness and understanding of K'omoks
history, culture and people, and create linkage between children/youth with K'omoks Elders;
Collaborate with KFN Education Coordinator,Schools and local employment agencies on youth work experience and employment programs;
*Supervise and support the youth to participate in the annual Gathering Our Voices Aboriginal Youth Conferences;
*Coordinate the logistics of the annual K'omoks National Aboriginal Day event;
*Proposal development and fundraising in collaboration with other staff, community and children and youth.
*Provide support to other staff in KFN departments as required.
*Other related duties as required.
Experience in organizing functions an asset
*Experience in working with youth and children
Advanced skills with MS Office including Excel, PPT and Word.
*Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and be adaptable to variouscompeting demands and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
*Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
*Demonstrated proactive approach to problem solving with strong decision-making capability.
Travel logistics, scheduling, presentation skills, meeting management, administrative writing skills are required.
*Class 5 Driver's License with clean driver's abstract.Class 4 Driver's License is preferred or willingness to successfully obtain a Class 4 Driver's License.
Successfully pass a criminal record check is mandatory.
