Employee Assistance Program (counselling for employees and family members) Located close to the Galloping Goose and on a major bus route Position Summary Under the Supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Second Cook is responsible for the basic cooking, baking and preparation techniques of the kitchen operations of the Assisted Living Residence, referred to as, “Jesken Aerie”.
The successful candidate will work with the Kitchen Supervisor to provide high quality, low fat, low sugar, low salt meals and baked goods that are palatable and nutritious. The Second Cook will assist with food purchasing, food production and menu planning. The Second Cook will be responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary working environment.
The Second Cook will provide coverage for the Kitchen Supervisor as required. The Second Cook will represent M'akola Housing Society and embrace the vision to improve living conditions for Elders, seniors, people living with disabilities while encouraging and reinforcing traditional practices and cultural beliefs.
The incumbent will ensure the Second Cook position is represented in a professional, responsible, and respectful way at all times.



Grade 12 Diploma 
Post Secondary Culinary Certificate/Cook Red Seal Certificate a combination of education and experience will be considered
Minimum 2 years kitchen experience working in a high volume facility preferably in a congregate/assisted living setting
Current Occupational First Aid
Food Safe- Level 2 and WHMIS Certification
Experience in and with the Indigenous community would be an asset  Criminal Record Check clearance

Required Knowledge and Skills

Directly executing the meals and snacks in accordance with safety and health standards and according to nutritional guidelines as set out in the Canada Food Guide for Healthy Eating
All Kitchen operations including proper stock rotation procedures and inventory control
Occupational Health and Safety standards and compliance
Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Demonstrate sound and accurate judgment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Advanced conflict resolution skills 
Strong planning and time management skills
Cultural Safety
Knowledge of the affects of aging
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to display tact, respect and diplomacy
Ability to take direction and follow procedures
