Ready to Rent BC (R2R) provides education and support to tenants, landlords, housing providers, community organizations and systems with the goal of successful tenancies for all. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION R2R opens doors to housing through RentSmart,a prevention approach. R2R’s theory of change is that education is transformative and along with support, is key to developing the combination of life-skills, knowledge and confidence required to have successful tenancies and increase housing stability.RentSmart is available online and in person.

IT WORKS! R2R and RentSmart Educators collectively evaluate and measure RentSmart’s impact. R2R also conducted a 3rd party evaluation and survey of past graduates. This is what RentSmart graduates had to say:

• 100% said their knowledge about renting increased as a result of taking RentSmart Certificate course

• 86% said maintaining their housing was easier as a result of taking the RentSmart Certificate course

• 79% of graduates said they have a better relationship with their landlord because of the course

• 70% of those who used the RentSmart certificate when applying for housing, said it directly helped them gained housing Tenant life-skills building course.

Upon completion, participants earn RentSmart Certificate, which BC Housing recognizes as positive reference and lets housing providers know graduate has taken the time to learn how to be a good tenant. Certificate can be verified so may be able to act as a reference for additional landlords. RentSmart Basics is a 3 hour introductory course designed to meet unique needs of specific populations such as youth, newcomers, seniors and people transitioning from homelessness. Basics can be used as a precursor to RentSmart Certificate.Professional development course for tenant management and support workers, property managers and landlords. Participants gain skills and tools to support common understanding and manage expectations between landlords and tenants to reduce confusion, miscommunication and conflict. RentSmart Educator (Train the Trainer) certifies individuals and community partners to deliver RentSmart to the communities they serve. RentSmart Educators have access to all RentSmart courses and support. RentSmart graduates can access RentSmart Support to help navigate and address issues or conflicts that may arise around housing.
